Pope Francis reminds us that our world needs young people of generosity to engage with the difficult realities of our times.
Like in academic life, or in sport, or music etc., so in our life of love of neighbour – we need to exercise ourselves, to discover how to come alive in the service of others, and how to communicate Christ’s own love for the poor and the marginalised.
So here are a few concrete ways you might engage in the service of others during your time in Oxford:
Volunteer with the Order of Malta
This Catholic charity provides volunteering opportunities for students in Oxford, particularly at the service of the homeless and the elderly
Support Oxford Students for Life
A secular, student-run society which seeks to promote a culture of life at the university and in the wider community, advocating the protection of human life from conception to natural death.
Engage through the Oxford Hub
Based on Little Clarendon Street, the Hub helps students find volunteering placements around the city, with refugee children, the disabled, the elderly and others in need.
Please contact one of the Chaplains if you have your own ideas as to how we can respond to the Gospel call to serve our neighbour and safeguard our ‘common home’.
