As many of you will now be aware, we got news yesterday evening, Friday 11th June, that a Chaplaincy resident had tested positive to COVID after taking a Lateral Flow Test. They had self-isolated immediately. We await the result of the PCR test, due sometime in the next 48 hours.

If the PCR test result is also positive, the student will of course provide the NHS Track and Trace with a list of their close contacts.

The student was present and helping at the Newman Society evening on Thursday. In the light of this, any of you who attended that event might like to consider taking a precautionary Lateral Flow Test.

All Chaplaincy residents have been in isolation since last night. No other member of the resident community has tested positive to a Lateral Flow Test.

The Chapel, Newman Room, and Narthex have been fogged and remain out of bounds to Chaplaincy residents.

In respect to Masses here at the Chaplaincy, because the public spaces have been fogged, and with the help of priests from Campion Hall, the following Masses will take place this week:

Sunday 13th June: 11am, 5.45pm and 9pm

Wed 16th and Thurs 17th: 8am student Mass

There will be no social gatherings after the Sunday Masses and everyone is encouraged to maintain social distancing and to sanitise hands on arrival at the Chaplaincy. Please do not attend Mass, here or elsewhere, if you feel at all unwell.

I am glad to say that the student who has tested positive has so far not experienced strong symptoms. Please keep them, the resident community and the wider Chaplaincy community in your prayers.

Fr. Matthew
