Professor Laszlo Orsy in conversation with Fr. Philip Endean SJ

vaticanIIThe Second Vatican Council was a great moment of renewal for the Catholic Church.  Its self-understanding was re-evaluated in the light of a deeper awareness of the ancient traditions of the whole Church and a desire to engage deeply and creatively with the contemporary world.  The Church we live in now is irrevocably shaped by its decrees.  Yet forty years on some have contested the way the Council has been implemented in the life of the Church.  What was in fact the will of the Council and has it been betrayed or upheld?  We are lucky enough to have staying with us the distinguished lawyer and canon lawyer, Professor Ladislas Orsy SJ of Georgetown, who was an expert present at the Council.  At 6:30 he will be speaking of his experiences there in dialogue with Fr. Philip Endean SJ of Campion Hall, offering an opportunity for question and debate about the council’s legacy.

In the course of the evening there will also be a book launch for Professor Orsy’s new book ‘Receiving the Council’ in which all are invited to participate.
