Conference Facilities

 The beginning of Sunday Mass in the Newman Room

The Newman Room during Sunday Mass

The Chaplaincy has, over the last thirty years, provided an ideal setting for city-centre conferences, dramatic and musical rehearsals and performances.

The ground floor of the New Building comprises a large Hall (23m x 14m), capable of seating over 300 people, as well as a large lobby area (called the Narthex) that opens out to Rose Place. There are no steps into the building, so it is ideal for disabled access.

The two ends of the Newman Room each have a small balcony and a curtained area for storage. Natural light is provided by roof-lights that can be blacked out using motorised screens, operable from within the room. The Conference Facilities comply with the current fire regulations for public spaces, and the Chaplaincy also possesses a theatre license for public performance.

Additional facilities for use includeNewman Room 2

* chairs to seat over 300 people
* 20 aluminum tables (6 x 2 ft)

* 15 stage blocks (3 x 3 ft)

* grand piano and organ

* lectern, black and whiteboards

Narthex

The Narthex is a large lobby area, which can be used independently for receptions or exhibitions, as well as by those hiring the Newman Rooms and Meeting Room. A small kitchenette is available for use. Toilets, including those for the disabled, are accessible from the Narthex.

The Meeting Room

The Meeting Room is located on the first floor of the New Building, and is accessible from the staircase in the Narthex. The room is often used for small lectures, classes and exams. It comfortably holds 30-40 people.
